My Background

Hi, my name is Jon Welsh. I am a 27 year old freelance web designer and photographer from Kingston Upon Hull, East Yorkshire.

I started my route to design work in College studying photography, design and media. When it was time for University I swayed more in the direction of photography, it gave me a wonderful opportunity to shoot on all types of different formats and experiment with various processes. I also had the chance to edit some of my projects using Adobe Photoshop. After University I decided to go travelling for a couple of years, working part-time between trips for funding.

After gaining lots of life experience on my travels, I decided to start studying again. This time I chose to study web design for something new and challenging. I learnt how to use various scripts including XHTML/HTML, CSS and Javascript. I also used a variety of software packages including Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Expression Web. After completing the course and sitting the exams I received a couple of Certified Internet Web professional (CIW) qualifications.

I managed to get a job working for Staples as a web designer/content editor, this position has honed my skills and understanding by working in a creative environment with like minded people. It has given me the chance to work with content manager software (CMS) which I have never used before. It has also allowed me to do research into up and coming scripts like HTML5 and CCS3.

I have an active lifestyle exercising most days, mainly running. I am interested in world cuisine and like to develop my cooking skills, I like to draw and I have the occasional round of golf.

About JWDesigns

I created JWDesigns in 2010, with the intention of bringing new technologies to the attention of junior designers everywhere, through simple tutorials. This, my newest site, implements HTML5 and CSS3 alongside Javascript and PHP.

This site is a showcase of the various skills and techniques I am capable of. This is the fourth JWDesigns site in the series and probably won't be the last. You will be able to view the JWDesigns Time line in the portfolio section of this site and hopefully see how my skills have progressed.

I have created this site to work with Wordpress, so you can give your opinions to the various tutorials and galleries that will be available to you. Your thoughts are important to me and would appreciate your feedback and comments.
